Deal's present pier – its third – was built in 1954 and formally opened by the Duke of Edinburgh on 19 November 1957. The pier was designed by Sir W Halcrow and Partners, and was the first seaside pleasure pier of any size to be built since 1910. It is 1026ft (311 meters) long.
Deal Pier is internationally recognised as an angling venue and was named Pier of the Year 2008 by the National Piers Society.
A new restaurant was designed by renowned architects Niall McLaughlin to mark the Pier's Golden Jubilee in 2007. Deal Pier Kitchen, which opened in 2009, won the RIBA Award 2009, Structural - Wood Award 2009 and was shortlisted for the Stephen Lawrence Prize.
The statue at the pier entrance is named Embracing the Sea, designed and crafted by sculptor Jon Buck. The 10 feet high, 3 tonne bronze monument was placed outside the entrance to Deal Pier in 1998.
