Explore White Cliffs Country

Historic, iconic, symbolic

A short journey from London, White Cliffs Country on Kent's Heritage Coast is the perfect destination for a day trip or longer stay. Almost a quarter of the region is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and there is no shortage of memorable things to see and do here. You can escape the everyday and focus on the good things in life.

Of course there are the world-famous White Cliffs, but look a little closer and you'll discover countless gems in Dover, Deal and Sandwich. Full of fascinating history and heritage, these characterful towns and their neighbouring picturesque villages are surrounded by striking coastline and beautiful countryside, perfect to explore on foot or on two wheels.

Take in the panoramic views and unspoiled coast - from the dramatic White Cliffs to Sandwich Bay. Travel the miles of marked walking and cycling trails, such as CHALKUP21, where you can discover 21st-century art and architecture, the North Downs Way, stretching for more than 150 miles along the chalk ridge of the North Downs, and explore local history as you follow in the footsteps of Kent’s coalminers along the Miners Way Trail.

Explore the incredible history of the area at Dover Castle (the largest castle in England after Windsor), Walmer Castle (a former residence of HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother) and Richborough Roman Fort near Sandwich, one of the most important Roman sites in Britain. There are centuries of history to discover here, from the 3600-year-old Bronze Age Boat on display at Dover Museum to the secret wartime tunnels under the White Cliffs.

With some of the UK’s greatest golf links courses to play on, and a golf course on top of the White Cliffs with breath-taking views across the sea to France, White Cliffs Country is proud to be the home of Kent's Golf Coast. The 149th Open took place here at Royal St George's in 2021.

Feel inspired to explore White Cliffs Country and understand why our visitors love to come back again and again.
