Sandwich Quay is now home port for a unique maritime attraction – a working gunship from the Cold War era.
Open to visitors by pre-arrangement, the P22 is the only example still afloat of a fleet of 23 such ships that patrolled the River Rhine.
Built in what was then West Germany, the P22 was American designed and initially operated by the US Navy for six years before being handed over to German Army control in 1958.
