Come along to White Mill Rural Heritage Centre to see the completely refurbished cap crane-lifted back into place on the windmill! This will be an important and exciting spectacle for mill enthusiasts and general public alike.
The White Mill is a Kentish smock windmill built around 1760. After a busy working life, near dereliction, then resurrection in the 1960s as the central exhibit of the White Mill Rural Heritage Centre, it is now nearing the completion of a thorough and faithful restoration, culminating in the mill becoming one of the oldest working mills in Britain. In 2018, the cap was removed for ease of access, so that the rebuilding of its entire internal workings could be undertaken.
The Mill gates will open at 8am on Tuesday 29 August, when the crane will arrive. After safety checks and technical preparations it is expected that the lift will start at about 12.30pm. NB timings are approximate.
