There can be no doubt that The White Cliffs of Dover are one of this country's most spectacular natural features.

They are an official icon of Britain and have been a symbol of hope and freedom for centuries.

Learn more about their fascinating military history, savour the rare flora and fauna only found on this chalk grassland or just watch the ships passing in the Channel from the comfort of the coffee shop.

The cliffs of are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). 

Walking

The Saxon Shore Way passes along the clifftops for the length of the site, along with many other paths and military tracks to explore. Enjoy exhilarating cliff top walks which offer unrivalled views of the busy English Channel.

There is a wheelchair-friendly footpath that leads to a viewing point, ideal if you just want a short route to see the famous cliffs. This all-weather path is built with a staggered incline, which allows for a few breathers on the way up.

Eating

The café at the National Trust White Cliffs Visitor Centre serves a range of hot and cold drinks, sweet treats, snacks and meals throughout the day – made freshly on site for you to enjoy as you take in the views of the world’s busiest passenger port. Seating is available indoors and out.

Shopping

The shop within the visitor centre has original gifts, clothing and local products, plus a second-hand bookshop stocked with pre-loved books. Every purchase helps fund vital conservation work.
