Updown , the much-lauded restaurant with rooms from Oli Brown and Ruth Leigh, in a 17th-Century Grade II-listed farmhouse near Deal, opened for dining and accommodation in 2022.
The beautifully restored farmhouse and grounds are set within seven and a half acres of rolling Kent countryside, just 15 minutes from the popular coastal town of Deal. Seven rooms, including the Gardener's Cottage, reflect the house’s unique character, hidden within its own magical woodland and mature wildflower gardens.
On Updown’s Secret Garden-esque terrace, guests can enjoy a cool cocktail amidst the blooming wisteria and hanging vines, before being invited to delight in Oli's seasonal menu, featuring produce from the nearby Goods Shed, award-winning butcher The Black Pig and local fishmonger Jenkins and Son.
Dishes change along with the seasons and suppliers, but guests can expect plates such as Raw Sea Bass with Almonds & Cherries and Grilled Lamb Chump with Broad Beans, Artichokes & Bagna Cauda. In the outdoor kitchen, the chefs cook everything to order in an impressive bakers’ oven, built into the stable wall.
Residential guests are welcome to order lunch and dinner throughout the property, whether in the farmhouse kitchen, bar or outside on the heated covered terrace watching chefs at work over the wood-fired grill. Breakfast is served in the farmhouse kitchen
